Isabella's Story

Six-year-old Isabella Miller loves ballet. But at the age of three, she was diagnosed with a nonspecific kidney disorder known as Nephrotic Syndrome. Suddenly it became crucial to avoid illnesses because of a compromised immune system.

After an eight-month intermission, she was able to return to a more active life and, eventually, ballet classes.

Weight gain was an unwelcome side effect of her medication, but her mother Susan Miller didn’t want her condition to stop Isabella’s growth and physical health.

The answer was already in their midst — the David D. Hunting YMCA. The Miller family had been using the facilities since 2002. The David D. Hunting branch is so large, Isabella can almost always find a place to enjoy herself and avoid persons with potential illnesses. There’s plenty for her eight-year-old brother Isaiah to do as well. Susan says the YMCA has been an educational, encouraging experience and will continue to be one for Isabella and the entire family. Please help us build a stronger spirit, mind, and body for 100% of our community.
